 F.H.T

The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) is the leading and largest independent professional association for complementary and sports therapists. Established in 1962, the FHT is a not-for-profit organisation that by setting industry standards has ensured best practice for the benefit and safety of both therapist and client.

Many therapies, one kind of therapist:
Qualified,
Experienced,
Professional.

Qualifications
The FHT is committed to improving the standards of education of professional therapists for the protection of the public and practitioner competence. The FHT accepts therapists with qualifications from the Active Health Group and other training providers which meet the minimum Skills for Health and Skills Active National Occupational Standards (NOS) and the Core Curriculum defined by the Sports & Remedial Therapies Council (SRTC), the professions governing body.
The FHT is a founder member of the SRTC.

Insurance
The FHT is an insurance intermediary authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA). The FHT works with insurers to bring tailor made therapist insurance at very competitive rates to its membership. New equipment, new techniques can be assessed and included quickly. Therapists with "high net worth clients" can be covered by a public liability policy of £10 Million ( aggregated). See FHT website for full details

Working with Education
The FHT is represented on the governing bodies of all regulated therapies, the Sector Skills Councils strategic review committees for National Occupational Standards, the regulator's Professional Specific Boards and university validation panels for complementary and sports therapy qualifications.

The FHT is a recognised accreditation provider for complementary healthcare and sports therapy courses and qualifications conducting inspection of course materials, tutor standards and qualifications, and the training premises. FHT accredited qualifications include modules on undergraduate courses from Glyndwr and Thames Valley universities and several higher education colleges throughout the UK and Ireland.

The FHT operates a comprehensive CPD programme ranging from introductory to advanced courses throughout the UK and Ireland, keeping its members up to date with the latest advances in complementary and sports therapy procedures. FHT members participate in annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Working with Employers

In healthcare
Many FHT members are working within the healthcare setting: including the NHS and Primary Care Trusts, private care homes and hospices, and social services. They deliver services in oncology, haematology, mental health and palliative care, as well as treatments to NHS staff. A special interest group comprising medically trained complementary therapists supports the FHT in its integrated healthcare objectives.

In leisure and elite sport
The FHT represents 3,000 sports and remedial massage therapists. These sports therapists work with clients from leisure to the elite athlete and professional sportsman and sportswoman. FHT members have been successfully treating patients to the required standards of professional practice and competence.

The FHT was influential in working with the voluntary regulator for complementary  and sports therapies, the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) towards achieving regulation of sports therapists. The regulation of sports and remedial therapists is for the benefit of their clients and should become an employment requirement for professional sports bodies and employers.

Working with the Regulator
The FHT supports voluntary regulation and has been influential in the formation of the CNHC, the official government backed voluntary regulator for complementary and sports therapies. The FHT continues to work closely with the official regulator that recognises the advisory role that the FHT is able to provide as the industry's leading professional association.

Working with the Department of Health
In 2007, professional therapists from the FHT membership were selected to participate in a clinical audit commissioned by the Northern Ireland Department of Health & Social Service and Public Safety (DHSSPSNI) resulting in an independent evaluation report on the health improvements to the participating NHS patients.

Working with The Prince's Foundation for Integrated Health (FIH)
The FHT is working with the FIH and other professional bodies to promote holistic practice in the healthcare setting. FHT representatives were members of the Federal Working Group setting the framework for voluntary regulation.

The Federation of Holistic Therapists is the professional association of choice for complementary and sports therapists in the UK and Ireland. A commitment to high standards, and involvement with key industry bodies makes the FHT the leading
professional association in the industry.
